Teenagers are frequently regarded as unmotivated learners, as it is often the case that their parents sign them up for classes they do not want to attend. Therefore the challenge to us teachers is to help our students motivate themselves, by involving them in activities that are interesting and valuable to them.

Some creative writing activities we recently used with students of this age group suggest that when the right conditions for student motivation are created, teenagers do not only fully enjoy the activity, but they also take the initiative to do more than they are expected to do.

One of the activities involved story telling from story sticks. Students had to write a story after picking three story sticks and present it to the class. The results were astonishing!
